ショップ名のsumud（スムード、ソムード）とは「忍耐、確固とした平和的抵抗」
そして「公正に行動することによって不正に立ち向かうこと」という意味を持ち、
パレスチナの人々の精神性をあらわす大切な言葉です。

1948という数字は西暦です。

パレスチナではイスラエルの建国宣言を受けて第１次中東戦争が勃発。

200以上の村が破壊され70万人以上のパレスチナ人が故郷と家を失ったナクバの年、

ミャンマーでは日本軍が敗退後、ビルマ連邦として独立を果たした年、

しかし、その後各地で続く内乱軍事クーデターといま現在も続く国軍支配への道を歩みだします

日本では現在の日本国憲法のもと、議員立法、国会での全会一致により障害者の人権を蹂躙する優生保護法が成立した年、

それが1948年です

わたしたち、ひとりひとりには小さな力しかありませんが、社会から周縁化された人々の声を届けたいと
当事者性のあるメンバーや有志によりこのショップを立ち上げました。

ハンドメイドアクセサリーやなどを販売しその収益の約90%を支援としています。
（緊急性や個別状況により収益の全額を寄付としているケースもあります）

Thank you for your interest in the products of our project, “Sumud 1948.”

The name of the shop, “sumud”, has the double meaning of “patient, determined, peaceful resistance” and “the confrontation of injustice via acts of justice” in Arabic. It has represented the Palestinian mentality and been a precious word for members of their community. 

Although each of us are  like small grains, we started this project in order to make marginalized peoples’ voices heard. 

You could maybe instead say something like “Although individually we have little power, when united for a single purpose, we gain the power to advocate on behalf of others as with a single, united voice.”

We sell handmade jewelry, herbal teas and spices, stickers, and badges designed by local artists to gather donations. A large part of any proceeds are sent directly to the marginalized communities.

For example, we have sent donations to individual Palestinians in the Gaza Strip living under genocidal conditions as well as  and Burmese citizens and children encountering natural disasters and conflicts under the present military regime.
